The Rose & Williams Story

Michael D. Rose immigrated to the U.S. from Dollar, Scotland in 1935. He brought the family business with him, founding the Rose Mortuary in 1939. As his family has done for generations before him, Michael always found immense comfort in being able to celebrate the lives of his clients and providing relief to their family members.

Michael brought endless strength and warmth that the staff of Rose & Williams pride ourselves on continuing today. He relished meeting the amazing people, helping in their time of need, and found his work made him appreciate his own family each and every day.

Michael served the St. Richards community for thirty years until 1970 when his late son took over the business until 1990. Five years later, Theodore Williams became a partner and the business became the Rose & Williams Mortuary of today.

You can find our team in the same Historic Henderson House (built in 1902) that Michael Sr. started his legacy in over 80 years ago. The site has been lovingly restored and preserved by our family.

Michael D. Rose III

Michael never expected to work in the death care industry. He worked in consulting in Raleigh, North Carolina for ten years before joining his father. After the loss of his wife, Michael moved home to be with the family. He held his wife’s hand throughout the entire preparation process and found the great care and detail brought him peace. In 1990 he took over the family business from his Father, Michael D. Rose II, who passed away in 2002.

Theodore knew he wanted to work in the funeral business at the age of five. He attended a funeral and thought it was the most beautiful occasion he’d seen in his young life. Much to the surprise of his family, he stuck to his plan and graduated from the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas in 1992. That same year, Theodore married Michael's sister, Lillian Rose; and became a partner in the family business in 1995.
